City of Joplin hires homelessness response director

(From the City of Joplin)

The Regional Commission on Homelessness, City of Joplin, and The Joplin Homeless Coalition (The Partners) have announced Eric Arganbright as the newly hired Director of Homelessness Response. Arganbright comes from the Wichita, Kansas area, bringing nearly ten years of experience working with/for organizations and agencies serving the needs of homeless populations.

He recently served as the Director of Planning and Community Engagement with the Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition, managing the state’s large Continuum of Care network of 101 counties to address the range of needs for individuals experiencing homelessness. In this position, he also designed and implemented data tracking systems to evaluate program effectiveness and identify new opportunities.

He has served at all levels of homelessness programs, from direct case management to program operations within a Continuum of Care. In his position at Catholic Charities Inc., Diocese of Wichita, he worked closely with other agencies to reduce Veteran homelessness.

Following a comprehensive study completed in 2024 and commissioned by the City of Joplin, "The Community Plan to Address Homelessness" made several key recommendations to strengthen local response efforts and mitigate the effects of homelessness in the Joplin region. One of the top recommendations was to create a Regional Commission on Homelessness to identify opportunities to enhance coordination and collaboration among existing service providers.

Another major recommendation developed through the joint efforts was to hire a Homelessness Director to help align community-wide efforts, identify available resources, and focus them on shared priorities and agreed-upon identified needs.

“Eric brings many skills to Joplin that will benefit our work with assisting the homelessness population as well as the collaborative efforts of our agencies and the community,” said Duane Dreiling, Chair of the Joplin Regional Commission on Homelessness. “We look forward working with him to enhance the existing efforts to address homelessness.”

Arganbright started his position on July 14, 2025. He is moving his family to Joplin and will transition into the community in the coming months.

WHO IS PAYING HIS SALARY? We keep thinking Government is always going to solve every problem for us. When will we figure out that the Government cannot make you stop drinking, smoking cigarettes, taking drugs, gambling, drinking a gallon of pop a day, or eating fast foods, or have you going to work, which all of the above things will cause health and financial issues - yet the self-respect and self-worth comes from the inside of a person - Don't want to be Homeless - STOP DRINKING, STOP SMOKING, STOP TAKING DRUGS, STOP GAMBLING, AND GO TO WORK - Exercise and Eat Right! It is impossible to Cure Someone - When they Will Not Help Themselves. This is SAD BUT TRUE....

So can the New Homeless Director Answer Why - In 2024, a total of 691 individuals were identified as experiencing homelessness in Wichita and Sedgwick County, Kansas. Did his Plans Work? NO, NO, HELL NO!

If only the delete button would work on these individuals. I know that sounds very harsh, but the majority of them are truly a detriment to our great community

People acting like being homeless is entirely preventable, or that they're all awful.

You people need to remember, all of us are just a few bad weeks away from homelessness.

7:40PM, The only detriment to our Society is People wanting to live off the Government - Which is living off the Backs of Hardworking Taxpayers - All you have to do is look at California and its Leftist Liberal Socialistic Democratic Society - Where Homelessness runs rampant - with Looting, Stealing, Drugs in the Streets, with Tents, Sleeping bags, and Shanties everywhere - they are just letting Homeless People take over the whole state. Do you Think 7:40PM that is the Solution - Just leave Society to the Homeless - Why don't you just Open your House up, share a Bed, let them live with you in your Basement - Does that Sound Good - Or just give them Your Government Check - -
OR MAYBE IF YOU WANT TO EAT - WORK.
OR MAYBE IF YOU WANT TO LIVE SOMEPLACE - WORK.
OR MAYBE IF YOU WANT TO GET MEDICAL TREATMENT - WORK.
OR MAYBE IF YOU WANT TO GET AN EDUCATION - WORK AND PAY TAXES.
THE MAJORITY OF THESE PEOPLE CAN WORK - WHY DON'T THEN - BECAUSE WE SUPPORT HANDOUTS - GOVERNMENTAL - WHEN PEOPLE DON"T WANT TO WORK - WORK WORK WORK - SIMPLE WAY TO GET OUT OF POVERTY.

7:40PM, We have an Estimated 7.77 Million Job Openings as of May 2025 in the United States - We have an Estimated 770,000 Homeless Individuals as of January 2024 - Round Up Call it a 1-Million Homeless that is over 7-Jobs per every Homeless Person in the United States - Yet a majority of them will not look for Work or Work - Just Collecting Governmental Checks. AGAIN, THEY DO NOT WANT TO WORK!!!

In May 2025, there were 7.77 million job openings in the United States. This number represents the total number of positions that were unfilled on the last business day of the month, and for which employers were actively recruiting.

In January 2024, the estimated number of homeless individuals in the United States was over 770,000. This represents an 18% increase from the previous year. How about that 18% Increase under the BIDEN ADMINISTRATION - - - Did they do anything for the Homeless - OF COURSE NOT THEY DON'T VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATS...

You do know that the solution in a lot of areas is putting the homeless on a bus and sending them to California to make their problem worse right? So are you pro 19th century work houses and debtors jails too?
