A Joplin man was charged with third-degree domestic assault today after allegedly biting off a piece of his girlfriend's ear.The allegations against Michael Scott Ruark (DOB 1985) were detailed in the probable cause statement:
On June 27, 2025, I, Officer Moore, was dispatched to a disturbance in the area of 7th and Grand Avenue, underneath the 7th Street viaduct.
When I arrived, I contacted V1. V1 was bleeding from the right side of her head. Upon further observation, I observed her right ear to be bleeding and a chunk of flesh missing from it.
V1 stated she was romantically involved with Michael Ruark for the past 2 years and he was her boyfriend. V1 stated she and Michael had been shopping at Salvation Army and then walking near the area of 7th and Grand Avenue.
Michael was extremely intoxicated and began throwing his arms in the air, near her face.
Michael then grabbed V1 around her head and pulled her toward him then bit her right ear. She screamed and began running away from the area, to get away from Michael.
The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.

OMG, is that Mike Tyson's son - Michael Scott Ruark, is another punk that needs to locked up. No Excuses - Just put him jail for a long time.
This is not a laughable crime! I am seeing more people who don't begin to understand the word "boundaries" and who are committing more domestic assaults. I want these people in anger management classes (in person) and to either serve some time behind bars or be sentenced to community service.
No, domestic violence is no laughable crime. They need to be in prison, where then they can take classes, etc., not out in the public. Most criminals will repeat their bad behavior once released.
My only disappointment, you beat me to the Mike Tyson comment.
