During a hearing this morning in U. S. District Court in Springfield, Charles Blake Tyler, 47, Webb City, was sentenced to 130 months in prison for possession and distribution of child pornography.
After Tyler completes his sentence, he will be on supervised probation for 30 years.
Tyler's crimes were detailed in a sentencing memorandum filed earlier this month.
On November 3, 2023, MSHP Corporal Blake DeHaan obtained a warrant to search the subject address from the Jasper Circuit Court. The warrant was executed on November 7, 2023. The defendant, Charles Tyler, was located within the residence and questioned.
The defendant readily admitted to downloading child pornography from the internet using peer-to-peer- file sharing software.
According to the defendant, he downloaded the illegal images in order to identify the children depicted in the images and alert law enforcement. The defendant, however, never contacted the authorities. The defendant was transported to the Jasper County Jail and subjected to a polygraph examination. The polygrapher determined that the defendant had exhibited deception when questioned about sexually abusing minors.
Following the examination, the defendant admitted that he had been previously charged with statutory sodomy and statutory rape but maintained that he was innocent of the charges.
The defendant’s digital storage devices were later forensically examined. Tens of thousands of image and video files depicting child pornography were located on the devices involving children as young as toddlers. The defendant’s extensive collection included over 256 known victims of child exploitation.
