Tribune Political blog: No statewide run for Scott

Sen. Delbert Scott, whose district includes Barton County, will not run for statewide office, according to a post by Jason Rosenbaum in the Columbia Tribune Political Blog. Scott had been rumored as a candidate for secretary of state or lieutenant governor:

"There comes a time to come home," Scott said, referring to his term-limited status after 2010. "I have no regrets. If something else opens up that looks feasible, I would look at it."

Such an opportunity, he said, would occur if U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Lexington, retired from Congress. There is a general assumption that the district could go Republican once the immensely popular Skelton leaves office.

But for now, Scott says he's "happy" and has no plans to run statewide this year.
