I’ve watched in dismay as the stroke of a pen sent many people across our nation into a spin of uncertainty and disbelief. I want you to know that all is not lost. There is still something that we can do.
On Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2 p.m., I will be in Kansas City at a Town Hall Meeting I’m hosting on immigration at the Manual Tech Center, located on Truman Road. Our goal is to remind you of the rights you have in America and ensure that everyone is at least armed with a copy of the U.S. Constitution and know what to say if caught in a troubling situation. We are also working hard to ensure that this program is available in multiple languages to reach our broad and diverse community.
President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders on immigration and a ban on travel has led to protests and upset across the country. Due to the chaotic events, I’ve called on Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, and Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Jason Chaffetz, to hold hearings on how this ban was made and who was consulted beforehand. We need to repeal this executive order.
Listen, I know many of you are worried. I know many of you in my district, are scared - wondering to yourselves, ”Am I going to be forced to leave the only home I’ve ever known?”. You want to know if you will separated from your children, from your family, or if you will lose your home or job.
Right now, because of the ban that President Trump signed last week, there are families overseas that cannot return to the U.S.- which is why you may have seen protests around the country last weekend at the nations’ airports.
This is America. Our nation is diverse - a collection of immigrants and refugees and those who sought and fought for freedom. Many of our ancestors arrived on these shores in search of a better life, a life free from persecution, a life of opportunity. In these challenging times, we must work together to help those who arrive searching for the very same future.

That is the issue now isn't it??? Donald's executive order bans LEGAL immigrants and refugees from entering the country. Republicans have been saying "wait in line" for years. These are people that have waited in line or in many cases have been living here LEGALLY for years only to find themselves banned when returning from vacation. The ban is idiotic and does nothing to make this country safer.
