Basketball goal that killed Spencer Nicodemus was substandard

The Joplin Globe reports that the basketball goal that fell and killed Joplin High School senior Spencer Nicodemus lacked certain safety features.

The revelation came in a joint statement issued by lawyers for the Joplin R-8 School District and for the Nicodemus family:

The basketball goal that fell in the Irving Elementary School gymnasium last month and fatally injured a high school student "did not have certain safety features either designed into it, manufactured or installed that would have prevented this tragedy," the attorneys for the Joplin School District and the student's family jointly told the Globe on Friday.

CJ Huff and Mike Johnson should definitely have some culpability in this -

You may want to change the headline.

"did not have certain safety features either designed into it, manufactured or installed that would have prevented this tragedy,"

The quote does not state the goal was substandard. It may turn out that the goal was either not installed correctly, or that it was modified at some time; either removing or disabling some safety feature that the manufacturer included.

God, I hope that family sues the district for every fu*king penny that it has. I am so angry on their behalf.

646, you don't feel the district should compensate this family for their loss?

I just figured that it was another crossland screw up

Won't suing the school district just mean the 'taxpayers' will pay for it? The school really has no accountability if so.
