National special interest group spends $25,000+ to elect Joplin R-8 Board candidates

A national special interest group has poured $25,262.34 into direct mailing, telephone calling, online advertising, polling, and consulting for Joplin R-8 Board of Education candidates Derek Gander and Deborah Gould.

The expenses were revealed in the National Association of Realtors' March 27 filing with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The report says the NAR paid $11,898.26 to Access Marketing, Denver, Colorado, mail, online ads, and phone calls on March 27 for Gander's campaign and the same amount for Gould's.

NAR also paid $732.91 March 22 for "polling and consulting expenses," for both Gander and Gould, according to the report.

While this appears to be the first time that the National Association of Realtors has become involved in a Joplin race, the Missouri Realtors PAC spent $5,

None of the five board candidates have filed papers to form a campaign committee, indicating that they are spending less than $1,000.

They are not required to file anything regarding independent expenditures made on their behalf as long as those are not in done in coordination with their campaigns.

Seriously , mailers and calls and polls / this isn't the presidential election
Follow the money .... why would Gander get so much? who would want to give him that much ? What's the payoff ?

This is interesting. What do these people expect to get for their $$$$? What do they think they are buying?

Maybe Gander should put his money where his mouth is - be transparent about this money
But he won't because he is shady

What if they held an election and nobody came?

Anonymous who posted at 4:50. How do you know he is shady? Do you know him personally?

eleven thousand eight hundred ninety eight dollars and twenty six cents is chump change for Joplin politicians said...

So how is asking for money not coordination?

Gander got all that money in advertisement and still came in third - to a guy who spent less

Goes to show you money can't buy class although it will buy you a seat on a schoolboard
