Detention hearing set for Joplin man indicted on federal child pornography charges

An April 16 detention hearing will be held in U. S. District Court in Springfield for a Joplin man who was indicted March 26 on child pornography charges.

Richard Allen Miller, 31, had been under investigation when he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a separate crime, according to the detention motion.
The defendant acknowledged that he had been downloading child pornography for a significant period of time. The defendant confessed that he had a sexual preference for children between 12 and 14 years of age.

The defendant advised the investigators that he had been communicating with a 17-year-old female who had sent him sexually explicit images. The defendant claimed that he was unaware that she was a minor.

The defendant’s Dropbox account was found to contain approximately 122 video files depicting sexually explicit depictions of children.
