Kansas City Democrat- Does a consulting firm deserve $800,000+ of CARES Act funds to help Gov. Parson do his job?

(From Rep. Ingrid Burnett, D-Kansas City)

Last week, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that Governor Parson entered into a no-bid contract with a Virginia based consulting firm, the McChrystal Group, which could end up being worth more than $1.3M.

During his latest press conference (9/3), Gov Parson answered three questions himself and defended hiring the McChrystal Group to help organize and coordinate efforts within government.

In an effort to deflect from the results of McChrystal’s current results, the example Parson used was from early on during the pandemic when the entire country was collectively running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

He attempted to justify the need for their assistance then, but did not explain why they have continued to receive funds from the state up until now.

Parson also said that no state money has been used to fund the McChrystal Group, which is technically true, but they have received over $800,000 in federal CARES Act funding, money that shouldn't be spent lightly as its meant to help our state response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Does a consulting firm deserve money just to help the governor do his job, when he has a team of people that should be more than capable of doing that job?

How great of a job did they do if Missouri is still averaging about 1300 new cases per day and our economy is still struggling?

You get to be the judge on November 3.
