Nodler tops area senators in lobbyist gifts for July

32nd District Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, topped the four southwest Missouri state senators for lobbyist gifts received in July, according to disclosure documents filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Two senators, Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, and Delbert Scott, R-Lowry City, did not receive any gifts from lobbyists during the month, according to the documents, while Norma Champion, R-Springfield, received only $7 in meals, food and beverage.
Nodler received $206.19 worth of meals, food, and beverage during a three-day period, July 18-20, the documents indicate. To that total, can be added an identical $206.19 worth of meals bought for the senator's wife, Joncee Nodler, though one lobbyist mistakenly referred to her as "Janice."
The Nodlers were wined and dined on July 18 by lobbyist Sarah Topp, who, according to the Ethics Commission documents nearly equally divided her time representing Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri, Ameristar Casino, Missouri Railroad Association, and the Missouri Beverage Association. Each received meals, food and beverage worth $115.39.
After a day off on July 19, the Nodlers again were treated by lobbyists on July 20, the Ethics Commission documents indicate. David Christian, lobbyist for Kansas City Power and Light, spent $19.89 apiece for the Nodlers, while Drue Duncan, lobbyist for Ameren UE, spent $70.91 for each of them.
