Ashens has clear route to public administrator post

With no candidates on the Democratic side of the slate, Angie Casavecchia Ashens, who trounced incumbent Rita Hunter in the race for the GOP nomination for Jasper County public administrator, is assured of election in November.

For those who did not attend the Lincoln Ladies Republican Women's Ice Cream Social at Memorial Hall in Carthage July 21, you missed one of the finest speeches made at this event by a candidate who was not running for statewide office.

And as someone who has seen everyone from Kenny Hulshof to Roy Blunt to Bill Webster speak at the function, this one ranked up with theirs, so check Mrs. Ashens' speech out if you have three minutes or so to spare. It starts out slowly, but builds to a powerful conclusion:
