Sen. Chris Koster has won the Democratic nomination and will face Michael Gibbons in the general election.
With all precincts reporting, Koster finished with 118,589 votes, 34.3 percent, to 117,737, 34.0 percent for Margaret Donnelly. Jeff Harris finished third with 86,379 votes or 25 percent.
The difference in the race may well have been the fourth candidate, Molly Williams, believed to be a stalking horse for Koster to keep Mrs. Donnelly from dominating the women's vote. Ms. Williams had 23,085 votes or 6.7 percent of the vote.
Koster, as has been noted numerous times in The Turner Report and elsewhere, was the recipient of more than $100,000 in contributions from shell committees established by retired billionaire and educational voucher supporter Rex Sinquefield.
