The Guin Mundorf law firm, which has represented the Joplin R-8 School District in a pair of well-publicized legal actions, no longer represents the Lee'Summit School District.
Attorney Shellie Guin's boyfriend, Superintendent David McGehee, the highest-paid administrator in the state, has been placed on paid administrative leave. The Kansas City Star reports that a buyout package is being worked out, even though the board recently extended his contract, something which should sound familiar to Joplin readers.
The relationship between McGehee and Guin was labeled a conflict of interest by McGehee's opponents.
Guin's firm did not have to submit a bid to land the job with her boyfriend's district and was paid $425,000 in 2013-2015.
Guin Mundorf represented the Joplin School District in a lawsuit filed by three Joplin residents after the resignations of Mike Landis and Randy Steele from the Joplin R-8 Board of Education led to the Jasper County Commission's appointment of Sallie Beard, Ron Gatz, and Gary Nodler to the board.
Guin served as the prosecutor in my termination hearing on May 23, 2013..
