East Middle School to open, counselors will be available to help students deal with Brooke Robinson's death

Joplin Schools posted the following item on the district website following the confirmation today that East Middle School student Brooke Robinson died following an accident on Shoal Creek:

To all District Staff, Students and Parents
(and especially East Middle School Students and Staff)

We know the school district and community are both sharing in the loss of Brooke Robinson, East Middle School student.

Tomorrow, June 2nd, we will open the East Middle School Commons Area from 1 to 3 PM. At that time, we will have counselors available to visit with any student (or family) who wishes to seek assistance while grieving.

And please remember the Robinson Family during this most difficult time.
Thank you.

Opening the school so that students will have a place to be together and grieve shows real empathy and understanding. A school is not a building. It's a community, and the bonds among students and between students and their teachers are strong. Having counselors on hand also shows concern for everyone mourning the loss of this child. Just so sad.

Good for them....but I am sure turner will find a way of attacking school leaders for this. That's who he is.

It is obvious that you do not have the slightest idea of who I am, but are so consumed with your own dislike of me that you would use a post about a community's tragedy to take a cheap shot. You had a good comment in your first three words and you should have had the self-discipline to end it after that.

Not consumed, you aren't worth the tome. Just making an observation of you and giving a compliment to r-8, something YOUR hate doesn't allow you to do. Prayers to this family.
