The Declaration of Independence declares: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed….”
The first right (given by God) listed is “Life.” Without life, the others are meaningless. In part, with this in mind, I have consistently filed legislation which would protect a developing human baby from the moment of fertilization.
Up until this session, the bills I've filed have been heard in committee (and voted successfully out of committee). These hearings have typically been completed by Valentine’s Day. This year, the bills have yet to be referred.
HB (House Bill) 671 requires due process before the developing baby’s life can be ended. HJR (House Joint Resolution) 28 is a Constitutional amendment, requiring a vote of the people, recognizing the developing human baby as a person. Missouri courts are bound by constitutional authority when deciding cases brought before them. An amendment such as HJR 28 would be a strong defense for developing human babies still in their mother's womb.
This year, the House passed HB 126 – The Heartbeat bill. The bill prohibits abortion after a heartbeat is detected. I voted for the bill.
We certainly have more to do, if we wish to stop the murder of developing human children.
This has been the slowest year I’ve experienced as far as getting bills referred to committee is concerned. I wonder whether or not the delay has anything to do with my challenge of the House rules at the beginning of session.

Please don't tell me a fertilized egg has a heartbeat and feels pain, the usual emotion-stirring pitches of the big-government, anti-choicers. "Bedroom police, ma'am. We need to check to see if you've just conceived."
Funny how some social conservatives want government out of *their* lives -- but don't mind if it snoops around in *yours* a little.
