Probable cause: Carthage man stabbed one person 10 times, another one six, another in the chest

Vincent Kimmel, 60, Carthage, is being held in the Jasper County Jail with no bond after being charged with three counts of assault, three counts of armed criminal action and a single count of burglary following a stabbing spree Sunday evening at a residence at 826 W. Chestnut in Carthage.

The alleged crimes took place at 9:51 p.m. when Kimmel forced into his way into the home, according to the probable cause statement.

Once inside the residence, Vincent Kimmel stabbed Jarod Brunner 10 times with a black folding knife.









Kimmel then turned to Whitney Dipley and Cassandra Martineau (and) while pointing the knife at them he yelled at them to sit down.

Kimmel then stabbed Whitney Dipley once in the chest when she got back up from the couch. Kimmel then stabbed Sloan Roberts six times in the neck.

Kimmel then grabbed Cassandra Martineau and attempted to pull her back into the house as she ran from the home.

The Carthage Police Department issued the following news release earlier in the day:

On 03/24/19 at approximately 2151 hrs the Carthage Police Department received a 911 call with unknown trouble.

An officer arrived in the area and located a subject a short distance from the incident location with blood on him. He was detained at that time without incident. 

We then received additional 911 calls stated subjects had been stabbed. Three victims sustained stab wounds and were transported by EMS. Two victims have been transported by Life Flight to Springfield, Mo hospitals and are currently in critical condition.

(Update from the Joplin Globe: One victim, 36-year-old Sloan Roberts, is in critical condition in a Springfield hospital, (Police Chief Greg) Dagnan said. The other victims, 32-year-old Whitney Dipley and 32-year-old Jarred Bruner, are in stable condition at Joplin and Springfield hospitals, he said.
