Wednesday during Attorney General William Barr’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Josh Hawley said the counterintelligence investigation into President Trump was an attempt by unelected bureaucrats to overturn a democratic election because of their disdain for Trump voters.
The transcript is printed below:
Senator Hawley: Speaking of particular individuals who got involved, I have to say, I’ve listened to this testimony all day today, and to me, maybe the most shocking thing I’ve heard is this. The Chairman read it earlier. On August 26, 2016, this is a text message from Peter Strzok, a top counterintelligence investigator who we now know helped launch this counter-spy investigation of the President of the United States.
Peter Strzok says, ‘Just went to a southern Virginia Walmart. I could SMELL the Trump support.’
Smell is capitalized. ‘Just went to a southern Virginia Walmart. I could SMELL the Trump support.’
In my view, do you want to know what’s really going on here? You want to know why the counterintelligence investigation really happened? Do you want to know why we are all sitting here today? That’s why. Right there.
An unelected bureaucrat, an unelected official in this government who clearly has open disdain, if not outright hatred for Trump voters, like the people of my state for instance.
‘I could SMELL the Trump support?’
Then tried to overturn the results of a democratic election. That’s what’s really gone on here. That’s the story. That’s why we are here today.
I cannot believe that a top official of this government with the kind of power that these people had, would try to exercise their own prejudices — and that’s what this is; it’s open, blatant prejudice — would try to use that in order to overturn a democratic election. And to my mind, that’s the real crisis here. And it is a crisis. Because if there’s not accountability, if this can go on in the United States of America, well then my goodness gracious we don’t have a democracy anymore.

Well I've been to Walmart and i've smelled Trump supporters there too! Sometimes can even smell 'em before they turn the corner from the 'tater chip aisle to the crackers and soup aisle. That can help prevent an accident between my shopping cart and theirs.
Just so you know I'm not a bureaucrat and I don't much like either Trump or his Trumpanistas like Howley and that Lindsay Grahamcracker. And don't even get me started about any of Trump's dimsons and failsons!
You know, we all have the right to hate or dislike anyone we want. Including the president. Fact is, there is a huge fit being thrown by people within our government because their side lost. How about our government try and govern rather than play politics?
12:17 needs to understand that orange hair has put in cabinet members and justices that do his bidding without fail. Most of his support in the White House has been implicated in treason or other moral failings. His personal disdain for women is well known and does not sit well with anyone of moral fiber. Yet the republicans in Congress follow his lead because they are not true patriots or spokespersons of the people, but that of a minority of people who follow trump for what ever reason. His continual lies like that of Hawley, Blunt and Long speak volumes of the character of Missouri voters. Sorry, it the truth and nothing but the truth.
Just like any other politician.
They are doing their job. It's in the Constitution. An oversight committee is to oversee actions actions of elected officials including the President.
He is right about one thing, you can actually smell a Trumpster. Their odor is on the wind and mixes well with the odor of chickenshit coming from the local CAFO.
Keep proving the point. Anyone different, any thought that you don't agree with, any thing you don't like... attack it. But preach tolerance.
Leftist are hypocrites of the highest degree.
Come on you little corporate meercat, Howdy-Doody Hawley, stick to what you know.
Pass a law outlawing metal roofing so that Tamko can stay in business selling 30-year shingles that don't last five. When I go out driving I hardly see anyone using shingles any more on new or old construction. Wonder why that is?
Earn your keep, you feckless corporate meercat. Besides Big Orange lost over a billion from 1985 to 1995, and isn't a very good steward of his own fortune, much less that of the entire country.
When you go out driving...
As far as Trump and his lost money, it is good to know leftists all latch on to the same talking points. Good for MSNBC, they are getting their message out. But more interesting than you spewing talking points is your total lack of critical thinking. If he is such a poor steward of his own money, why would banks and other investors continue to loan him enormous sums of money over the years? One might be led to believe that sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story. Or one may be a partisan lemming that is not capable of using rational thought or reason.
