Billy Long: House Democrats denying President Trump his liberties

Billy Long criticized House Democrats in a Facebook post Wednesday saying President Donald Trump should have the right to question the witnesses against him in the impeachment inquiry.

Apparently, he and the other Republicans who have been making this argument either do not realize or think we are too dumb to realize that the president and his lawyers will have every opportunity to see the witnesses against him and cross-examine them if and when the case goes to trial.

In other words, President Trump is being afforded the same rights any other American gets.

Here's Billy Long's version:

House Democrats have made it clear from day one that they would not accept the outcome of the 2016 election and have made every effort to delegitimize and undermine our duly-elected president ever since.

House Democrats have weaponized this impeachment declaration for partisan gain, hoping to take back the executive branch in 2020 by any means necessary.

Traditionally, the President has the right to cross-examine and call witnesses, among other basic rights guaranteed to all Americans; thus far, he has been denied these liberties as House Democrats proceed with an inquiry shrouded in secrecy. This declaration of impeachment breaks with every past precedent and has become a partisan circus.

I applaud the White House Counsel for penning this open letter, and I hope House Democrats will begin acting in good faith.

Senator Long, You are confusing the House with either a court of law or with the Senate. In an impeachment inquiry the House is the equivalent of a Grand Jury which listens to allegations, hears from witnesses, and determines whether or not charges are to be brought against the accused. If charges are brought, the case moves to the courtroom, or in the case of presidential impeachment, to the Senate where it is tried. The accused may at that time defend him/herself. The current President is not being denied either his rights or liberties.

CJBH, we're in a post truth world now. It doesn't matter what the law or facts are. The only thing that matters is how many people can be convinced that Trump is innocent.

You silly people, trying to educate Billy Bob or any of the republican legislators of actual law or operation of their respective congressional bodies. It does not make a difference to them if they can spread rumors, lies or innuendoes about what is going on. They are only trying to keep the sweet deals of being a congressional person to eat the spoils. Oops, bad me, there goes Billy to las Vegas. It is sad that someone like Colin Powell has called the GOP out for not trying to fix their broken party. That was a man that should have been in office versus little Georgie Bush.

This former Republican (thanks Libertarians - Libs- and Tea Party) is crying foul. The ridiculous and narcissistic behavior of our President is finally catching up with him. Even without the departure of virtually every cabinet member (many of whom think he is crazy), the accusation is worth investigating. Trump's foreign policy nightmare only gets worse with every passing day. He WILL get his day in court, in front of the Senate, which is his due process. Saying anything otherwise is at best foolish and borders on aiding and abetting corruption. Get some courage, Billy.

The funniest part about this whole fiasco is watching the Democrats stick to the script even after Trump derailed the entire narrative on day one by releasing the trancript of the call.
Everyone in the world now has first hand knowledge of this phone call, while all the 2nd and third hand "whistle blowers" are still trotted out one by one.
It's all for show, and everyone who isn't a reporter or die hard TDS sufferer, or delusional, (but I repeat myself) knows it.
Just like the whole Russia Democrat fan fiction saga, this is going nowhere.
On the other hand it is very useful in waking folks up to how the previous administration used their offices to enrich themselves and their families.
It also helps weed out the spies who are gunning for Trump as we speak.
Pelosi and schiff know that this is going nowhere, believe me now or face it later. They think that having the spectre of impeachment hanging over his head will hurt his reelection chances. It is a desperation move. Not to mention hampering a potential Supreme Court nom if Ginsbergs health doesn't hold out.
This really doesn't even qualify as good political theater. Community level at best, Elementary school level if we're being honest.
If they want Trump out, they are going to have to put up a decent candidate and beat him. Lastly:Demand voter I'D! If you think they suddenly found a lot of "lost" ballots in dem districts in the mid terms you haven't seen anything yet.

6:58 - You are mistaken. How many of "his generals" need to resign before people see that the emperor has no clothes? How many high-level officials need to quit, often in disgust, before his "base" wakes up? How many blatant requests to foreign governments for help in taking down rivals, sometimes in broad daylight but often in secret, need to be made in order to be seen as outright corruption? How many idiotic foreign policy decisions need to be made, most recently with the Kurds, in order for the public to know what "his generals" found out - Donald Trump is unfit to be President of the United States. I could care less about impeachment - America won't be fooled again. Let's just hope the extreme counter-reaction isn't just as bad, even if it isn't as sick or foolish as the man in the White House today.

Glad to read comments from folks who understand impeachment is not a trial; it's an investigation into whether charges should be brought.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” -- Joseph Goebbels

Unknown, I just want to point out that it's far from a transcript. It's a rough recollection of the call, the transcript has not been released.

To answer your questions about how many people, generals etc. need to resign: The answer is all of them. They are not elected, they serve at the pleasure of the President If they don't like his policies they are free to go. If they aren't working toward the agenda he lays out, they most certainly should leave. Do you think everyone in the last administration agreed with the policies of that president? If they didn't, they resigned or were fired. Nothing wrong with that either. You may hate Trump, and that's fine, but Obama himself said it best when he and the dems pushed through Obamacare. "elections have consequences"

The Ukrainian president said himself there was no pressure to do anything, and they had already started the investigation back up against Bidens son. These goalposts should get a Capital one card, because they are racking up the miles fast.

It's always fun to read the political comments to determine who lives in the alternative universe of Fox News vs. who lives in reality.

Why have media outlets reported it to be a transcript? It is all very confusing. It is almost like there is an effort of misinformation that exists.
Poor Joe Biden caught in the middle of all this. The man did nothing wrong other than hep his son out. So what if he used his elected office to gain advantage in doing so? I am sure they all do it. Trump had no right to throw his weight around. If a Demcrat had done this the media would have crucified them.
