Message to KZRG: Community service isn't just something you turn on when the weather gets bad

Since the announcement late last week that President Trump had contracted COVID-19, there has been no shortage of well wishes from people who completely oppose him politically.

Among those expressing those thoughts were Joe and Jill Biden, Barack and Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi- one Democratic big name after another.

None of those people have any use for Donald Trump, but they are able to put those feelings aside when their political opponents suffer illness or tragedy.

Of course, there are always going to be people who say he had it coming or that they are glad to see it happen to the president. Those people are in the minority, despite the impression that is being conveyed on Fox News and other outlets that have taken each person, no matter how low in the Democratic food chain, that have said something stupid and used it as an indictment of everyone they have been demonizing for years.

It is a page from an old playbook and sadly, it has come to be expected.

It is disappointing to see the people at KZRG using the same methods to inflame their radio and Facebook followers.

Today's poll question is a case in point:

Many leftists have not wished President Trump well. What does that say about them?

Obviously, intelligent conversation about the issues is the furthest thing from the mind of whoever came up with that question.

Many more "lefties" wished the president well and you didn't mention that. What does that say about you?

While there is no doubt that KZRG's viewpoints are in line with the flame throwing conservative talk show hosts who fill their daily schedule, that is no excuse for stoking hatred, which is exactly what that loaded question does.

The answers on the Facebook page show the question stirred up the thoughts you expect would come from such a question.

They are lost and sad people and hate everything that stands for goodness.

Most are bitter hateful selfish people that don’t wish to seek truth!

They are Satanic. Want to destroy the world.

They are Heartless pathetic people.

Just shows that the radical left is a hateful group and not the party I want leading the country. VOTE RED!!!

A sprinkling of commenters noted similar comments had been made by Republicans toward Democrats, but those people were few and far between, most likely because they long ago abandoned KZRG's Facebook page and went elsewhere seeking reality.

When the tornado hit Joplin in 2011, KZRG went above and beyond for weeks helping to hold the city together during its most trying times.

When severe storms and ice conditions hit this area, KZRG provides top-notch coverage, keeping its listeners informed.

Those services are much appreciated, but they don't absolve the station of its recent recklessness in encouraging hatred and misinformation.

Community service is not something you only turn on when the weather gets bad.
