Springfield-Greene County Health Department creates COVID-19 Living Memorial

(From the Springfield-Greene County Health Department)

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has created a COVID-19 Living Memorial to remember those lost from COVID-19 and support those left behind.

The memorial can be accessed at health.springfieldmo.gov/COVIDmemorial

“Grief and loss are never easy, but the pandemic has made losing a loved one that much harder,” said Assistant Director of Health Katie Towns. “We hope that these resources remind families that they are not alone and our community is here for them.”

The Living Memorial will be regularly updated with photos and memories of individuals lost to this pandemic. It includes a link for families to share what they would like the community to remember about their loved one.

The page also includes information about a dual blue and green awareness ribbon which represents our fight against COVID-19. Blue is the color of the City of Springfield’s logo and has become a symbol of community. Green is the color of the Greene County logo and is also an awareness color for mental health. For COVID-19, we also hope those colors come to represent solidarity and remembrance.

The Health Department is working on ways for members of our community to adopt this symbol to honor those directly impacted by COVID-19.
