Neosho man charged with DWI, property damage, resisting arrest following high-speed chase through Seneca

A Neosho man was charged in Newton County Circuit Court with driving while intoxicated, property damage and resisting arrest by fleeing following a pursuit this morning by the Seneca Police Department.

According to the probable cause statement, A Seneca police officer spotted Colton Ray Reed (DOB 2000) failing to operate his turn signal while going from eastbound Highway U to northbound MO 43, with the brake lamp failing to activate at 1:07 a.m.

The officer followed Reed, activated his emergency lights and siren at Highway 43 and Lonnie Lane, causing Reed to drive faster, accelerating to more than 90 miles per hour, the statement said.

As the pursuit continued, Reed crossed the center lines and ran a stop sign at the intersection of MO 86 and Gum Road.

Eventually, Reed crashed the vehicle, which landed on its top with evidence indicating it hit a New-Mac Electric utility pole.

Reed smelled of alcohol, according to the probable cause statement, with his breath sample registering at .117.

The resisting arrest by fleeing and property damage charges are felonies, while the DWI is a misdemeanor.
