Carthage man sentenced to 30 years for murder at Westside Storage

During a hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court Tuesday, Judge Gayle Crane sentenced Mason Scott Roach, 28, Carthage, to 30 years in prison for second degree murder.

Roach pleaded guilty January 8 to the December 18, 2019 murder of Jonathan Powell at Westside Storage in Joplin.

Roach was awaiting trial in Jasper County Circuit Court on a felony auto theft charge when the murder occurred.

At the time he allegedly committed that offense, he was on probation after receiving suspended sentences for stealing a gun, forgery and domestic assault.
