Cathy Jo Loy: The numbers tell the story

(From Rep. Cathy Jo Loy, R-Carthage)

In recent weeks, we’ve seen passionate voices raised in our district over issues like Amendment 3 (the abortion proposal) and Proposition A which appeared on the 2024 ballot. Many in the 163rd District have reached out to share concerns and opposition, and I want to thank each person who has taken the time to engage. Whether you agreed with me or not, your participation is part of what makes our representative republic strong.

The numbers tell an important story. In the 163rd District, 62.69% opposed Amendment 3, and a majority opposed Proposition A. Across Missouri, only 6 to 8 of our 114 counties supported these measures; meaning a small fraction of the state dictated constitutional changes for everyone.

This is exactly why IP reform and protecting our Constitution from mob rule is more important than ever. A simple majority across all 8 congressional districts ensures that our Constitution reflects the will of the entire state, not just a few counties with the largest populations.

This summer, we were called back into our 2nd Extraordinary Session to consider new congressional maps and Initiative Petion Reform. I supported the plan that strengthened Missouri’s conservative voice in Washington. Every voter still votes in congressional elections, and every sitting congressman remains within their district. The new map is more contiguous and compact, and rather than diluting anyone’s vote, it expands representation and ensures Missourians are better reflected at the federal level.

I am honored to represent every citizen of the 163rd District. At the same time, I must be clear: I ran loudly and openly as a conservative. I have always stood for the sanctity of life, for defending our Constitution, and for electing more conservatives to serve in office. These principles are not new to my service, they are the commitments I made to you as your representative.

I also want to reflect on something deeper. Today, I watched a rally that stood for values completely opposite of my own. While I disagree strongly, I couldn’t help but feel pride in the freedom that allows people to gather, to speak, and to stand for their beliefs. That very freedom is what makes America exceptional. We may disagree, but we can never lose sight of the liberty that makes those disagreements possible.

As your representative, I will continue to listen, to ask questions, and to serve the people of the 163rd District with commitment and a deep sense of responsibility. But you can also count on me to stand firmly for the conservative principles I promised to uphold: life, liberty, and the defense of our Constitution.

I'm a lifelong resident of this area. Where, who and when did this person get elected? They obviously haven't done much. Never heard of her.
