Four Joplin eating establishments failed Joplin Health Department inspections, according to information posted on the department website.
Those failing were the following:
The Corner, 2002 S. Main Street
It's Greek to Me, 101 North Range Line Road
Boba and Pha, 2330 S. Range Line Road
Big Apple Travel Centers, 2110 S. Prigmore Avenue
The Corner
The Corner recorded five core violations, one priority violation and an administrative violation.
The priority violation was for evidence of mice droppings that were observed in the bag and box station in the back room.
Core violations were cited for the following:
-The door gaskets and the door itself to the walk-in cooler were damaged
-No hot water in the handwashing sink
-Gaskets were damaged and missing from the front entrance. An area is open allowing entry for insects and rodents.
-Water damage was observed on the bottom portions of the wall around the soda fountain dispenser.
The administrative violation was for not having an up-to-date health permit posted.
It's Greek to Me
It's Greek to Me recorded seven priority violations and 10 core violations.
The priority violations were for the following:
-Each handwashing sink was dry at the start of the inspection and staff had been present for multiple hours preparing food.
-A container of grape leaf rolls was molding in the walk in cooler.
-Falafel is stored in non-food grade shopping bags in chest freezers.
-Molding lemons were observed in the walk in cooler
-An open container of minced garlic maintained on the counter at room temperature though manufacturer's label specifies the item is to be refrigerated after opening.
-Ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods in walk in cooler do not have discard dates.
-Cut tomatoes and hummus on the front cold holding table are being cold held above 41 degrees.
Core violations were cited for the following;
-A container of shredded lettuce was stored uncovered in the walk in freezer.
-Frost accumulation was noted in chest freezers.
-Debris accumulations were present on walls, floors and shelves of the walk in cooler.
-Boxes of single service food items were sorted on the floor in the satellite storage area.
-The faucet to the three compartment sink was leaking.,
-Unfinished concrete in front of the three compartment sink was not smooth.
-No hand towels were available at the back kitchen hand washing sink.
-Ceiling tiles and light fixtures in the kitchen were damaged.
-Grease and dust debris were accumulating on the walls and ceiling outside and near the hood.
Boba and Pha
Boba and Pha received two priority violations and five core violations.
Priority violations were received for the following:
-Food items stored in shopping bags were not intended for food contact.
-Potentially hazardous foods in the boba tea prep cooler were being cold held above 41 degrees.
Core violations were recorded for the following:
-Hot water was not available at the kitchen hand sink.
-Lights weren't working in the kitchen.
-Oil and grease residue were accumulating on the walls around the cooking equipment.
-Personal items were stored in and amongst food establishment equipment.
-Drywall was damaged in the women's restroom.
Big Apple Travel Centers
Big Apple Travel Centers recorded one priority violation and six core violations.
The priority violation was for food items stored in the table cooler were being cold held at temperatures above 41 degrees.
Core violations were recorded for the following:
-An uncovered food container was observed in the upright cooler in the dry storage area.
-Boxes of food were stored on the floor in the main kitchen area and the storage section.
-A wiping cloth was seen lying on preparation areas.
-Scoops without handles were seen in multiple locations in the kitchen.
-Excess condensation was freezing on surfaces inside the walk-in freezer.
-An employee phone and portable speaker were improperly stored on a food preparation surface.
