Freeman Health officials fire phlebotomy coordinator after profane, racist video hits social media


Freeman Health System officials were scrambling today after a 28-second video of a coordinator in the hospital's phlebotomy department insulting another employee using racist and profane language circulated on social media.

Freeman fired the employee today, according to a statement posted on Freeman's Facebook page.







The video reportedly came from one that was initially posted on social media by the fired employee and begins with the woman saying, "How about you back the f--k up, you f--king {N word}." (Note: The actual words were used on the video but are not going to be used in this post.)

The video continues with the woman referring to the person she was talking to as having a "fat ass, black ass, nasty ass," and asking, "Why the f--k would he want your black ass?"

The video then shows her accusing the person she is addressing as being f--king racist as f--k, so how about staying in your own f--king lane."

The public pressure after the video circulated played a key role in the dismissal, since multiple sources told the Turner Report this was not the first complaint of racist and abusive behavior that had been made against the employee, that the complaints reached the woman's direct department head, Director of Laboratory Services Karen Watts, and that officials at the highest levels at Freeman were aware of employees leaving that department after problems weren't acknowledged or addressed.







Freeman's statement is posted below:

Freeman Health System recently received reports of troubling and offensive comments being made online by one of its employees. As a result of an internal investigation, appropriate corrective action has been taken in accordance with System policies, and the individual involved is no longer employed with the organization.

While we do not share specific details out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, we want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to maintaining a workplace that is safe, inclusive, and respectful for all employees — and one that encourages the highest quality care for our patients. 

At Freeman, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. We expect every member of our team to uphold these values in all aspects of their work and interactions.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission and for helping make Freeman Health System a place of healing, respect, and excellence.

Does not surprise me that the lab director knew about it and did nothing. She doesn't care how miserable her employees are as long as they work at 200% on a skeleton crew. Why do anything about real problems when you can sit in your ivory tower and send each employee 5 emails a day about every minor complaint and mistake made?

Yes, "cracker" is considered a racial slur by many, though its derogatory use is primarily directed at rural, non-elite white Southerners and has a history of being associated with racism and bigotry, particularly during the Civil Rights Movement.

Nazis, Fascist, are all derogatory terms for a member of a specific political party and is associated with racist ideology. While the term - Maggots is a highly derogatory terms used to insult, demean, or dehumanize a person.

Karen Watts needs to be fired. She is worthless baggage like most of Freeman's administration. Hopefully the new CEO will do some much needed house cleaning.

This makes me wonder how the employee was acting and speaking before she started recording the video.
This should go without saying, but because I know a lot of you have a hard time keeping up with processing different ideas outside of the what the mainstream media will tell you I will go ahead and say it, this doesn't excuse what was said by the coordinator.
Now why would a coordinator at Freeman be calling an employee the N word, calling HER racist and telling her to back off? Is she schizo and this came out of the blue, OR, were they having a verbal argument where she was feeling threatened in some way shape or form?
I'm going to take a wild guess and say the black employee was being equally insufferable to the coordinator, triggering her into acting unprofessionally in order to get her fired because it appears they have some kind of history of not liking each other.
Again, for the slow people in the back, I am not saying it is ok to act this way or speak in this manor to an employee in a professional environment. Just saying that there's probably more to the story and if there were video of the entire conversation it would probably result in two people getting canned and not just one.
