Former president of Anderson not-for-profit charged with embezzling $6,000+

The former president of Helping Hands for a Better Community, a not-for-profit organization created to help women recover from drug addiction, helped himself to $6,733.86, according to a probable cause statement filed Friday in McDonald County Circuit Court.

Casey Morris Daniels, 40, is being held in the McDonald County Detention Center on a $7,000 bond after being arrested Friday night by the Goodman Police Department.

A new member of the Helping Hands for a Better Community Board tipped off the Anderson Police Department July 8 that theft had taken place, providing receipts of transactions that had been completed "by Casey and 'presidents' and founders of the organization."

Financial reports for the organization provided to the police by Arvest Bank showed $6,733.86 in funds that were not accounted for, including "purchases to Grand Lake Casino, Town and Country and various gas stations and grocery stores," between October 2024 and April 2025, according to the probable cause statement.

The statement includes information the police received in an interview with Daniels' wife, Latasha Daniels, in which she said her husband and president and in charge of finances until the beginning of March 2025 when she took over.

An earlier paragraph has a woman telling the police that she used "approximately $3,000 of funds for non-organization personal purchases.

In an interview with the Anderson Police August 24, Casey Daniels "reported being over his head while forming and running the organization. Casey advised that some purchases were made for food for volunteers of the house and that they should have kept better receipts."

As of Monday morning, McDonald County Circuit Court online records do not indicate charges have been filed against anyone except Casey Daniels.

According to the organization's Facebook page, Helping Hands for a Better Community was created to "help the women in our community, who have found themselves in a bad place, recover from drug addiction. We will provide a house with other recovering women as well as a job and transportation to and from all activities that are needed to continue recovery."

Another non-profit that was embezzled from - Casey Morris Daniels, will just be able to pay a fine, pay restitution, and get back on the streets, since our worthless judges and prosecutors, fail to see the importance of holding criminals accountable for their actions - giving them slaps on the wrists just like the many criminals that have stolen from non-profits in Newton and Jasper counties too.
