Joplin R-8 bond issue passes

It appears that my workplace will change in a couple of years.
Joplin R-8 voters approved a $57 million bond issue to build two middle schools and refurbish North Middle School. The issue required a 57.1 percent approval to pass and received 59.3 percent.
Teachers from the current South Middle School are scheduled to move to the new South on 50th Street after its construction.
Three factors played key roles in the bond issue's success:

1. Voters had a genuine concern about putting all of the district's middle school students in two schools, as proposed last time. Keeping three middle schools made a big difference.

2. Placing the new East Middle School in Duquesne was a good move. That was an area that roundly opposed the bond issue last time.

3. Putting citizens in charge of promoting the issue rather than board members and administrators was also a key.

I am betting tomorrow will be a happy day in Joplin R-8 schools, but with MAP tests rapidly approaching, the celebration will have to wait until later.

Congrats to the district. Let's get these schools built and then do something about the elementary schools.

An old saying comes to mind....."you can polish a terd all you want but it's still a terd." I think this pretty much sums up Joplin schools.

Your knowledge of Joplin schools is matched only by your spelling ability.

I must have touched a nerve with you Turner. You make spelling mistakes on here all the time. I don't have the time in my day to point all of them out. the actual correct spelling for terd by the way is not turd. Do your research genius.
