Columbia Tribune columnist Jason Rosenbaum offers a study of how Tuesday's election will affect the fortunes of members of Missouri's Congressional delegation.
For the Democrats, especially Fourth District Congressman Ike Skelton, the move of Congress from the Republican to the Democratic column, will mean an increase in power and visibility.
For Republicans, the opposite is true, especially for Roy Blunt.
One Republican who does not expect to see a major downswing in his influence is Sen. Kit Bond, who has a longstanding record of reaching across the aisle on various bill and has been both in the majority and the minority during his long tenure:
"I've been in the majority, and I've been in the minority," Bond said in an e-mail to the Tribune. "The majority is a lot better, but if you are going to be in the minority, 49 seats is about the best you can ask for." Bond cited his seniority as a plus. "The fact is, seniority still counts for something in the Senate," Bond said. "I have also worked closely with my Democratic colleagues on the Appropriations Committee in the past, and I expect that mutual cooperation to continue."
