State Auditor Claire McCaskill is claiming victory and speaking to her supporters as this is being typed shortly before 1 a.m.
"The great state of Missouri has spoken," she said. "We have heard the voice of Missourians and they said 'we want change.' "
Ms. McCaskill said her victory was a repudiation of the politics of personal attacks. She thanked her supporters, her staff and her mom, whom Ms. McCaskill says "was the star of the show," and "my husband, who endured more than any candidate's spouse should ever have to."
Sen. Talent has not conceded defeat at this point.
