Rep. B. J. Marsh, R-Springfield, plans to challenge Missouri's term limits law, according to a posting on Ozarks Messenger, the blog written by Springfield News-Leader Editorial Page Editor Tony Messenger.
Those of you who have read this blog know I am against term limits. Messenger makes it clear that he, too, opposes them:
Marsh is right about term limits. They're a failed experiment that takes power away from voters and puts it in the hands of the executive branch and lobbyists. But I'm not sure his legal challenge will stand up. I'd like to see him and other legislators take the issue back to voters first. That being said, a legal challenge to a term limit law in Arkansas (which placed limits on those running for Congress) was upheld by the Supreme Court, so who knows?
