Joplin R-8 superintendent resigns, accepts position at Lindbergh in St. Louis County

Jim Simpson, superintendent of the Joplin R-8 School District, for the past seven years, will announce his resignation tonight, he told district personnel in an e-mail issued Monday.
Simpson, who has been the superintendent of a school district which has been accredited with distinction by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the past four years, is headed for a district that has received that honor seven years in a row- Lindbergh School District in St. Louis County.

The R-8 Board of Education voted 7-0 during a 5:30 p.m. work session tonight to accept Simpson's resignation, since he is in the middle of a contract.

As this is being written, Simpson is talking about the successes of his time in the district and crediting them to the people of the school district, the teachers, students, and board members.
Among those were the above-mentioned accredited with distinction honors and the passage of the bond issue to build new South and East middle schools, and to completely refurbish North Middle School.

"I will always remember Joplin with fondness," Simpson said.
