Former East Newton coach now faces three rape charges

Two more rape charges have been filed against former East Newton High School girls basketball coach Josh Long, 30, Oronogo, according to Jasper County Circuit Court records.
The amended complaint, filed Monday, charges him with three counts of felony statutory rape. Previously, Long had been charged with just one count. According to court records, one of the alleged crimes took place June 12, while the others were on May 1.
Long, who is being represented by prominent Springfield criminal attorney Dee Wampler, is scheduled to be arraigned 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Long was still employed by the McDonald County R-1 School District, when the first two crimes are alleged to have taken place. He had not officially started his duties at East Newton and resigned after the charges were filed.
