Big money coming into 16th District Senate race

A total of $176,780 in oversized contributions have poured into the 16th District State Senate during the past couple of weeks, according to 48-hour reports filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

In that race, incumbent Sen. Frank Barnitz, D-Lake Spring, is opposed by Dr. Dan Brown, R-Rolla.

The Ethics Comission documents show Barnitz picked up all of his money in a two-day period Thursday and Friday, receiving $78280 from the Missouri State Democratic Committee and two conributions totaling $23,500 from Safer Families for Missouri, which is a group that serves the interests of Missouri State Trial Attorneys.

Dr. Brown picked up three $10,000 contributions from the Majority Fund, Inc., $20,000 from Senate Majority Fund and $25,000 from David Humphreys, TAMKO, Joplin.
