In the first round of voting for the new member of the Joplin R-8 Board of Education, former board member Jim Kimbrough received three votes, from Debbie Fort, Jeff Koch, and Jennifer Martucci, with Empire District Electric attorney Sharrock Dermott getting two, and Marsi Archer one.
Lynda Banwart and Randy Steele voted for Dermott, while Mike Landis cast his vote for Archer.
Each board member was allowed to nominate one person and they were allowed to nominate one who had been nominated earlier.
The voting will go to a second round.

Anybody know Sharrock Dermott affiliation with Joplin Schools or the R8/admin/bright futures? We all know Kimbroughs record which seems to be very good. He did very appropriately speak up when CJ lashed out on Facebook at Martucci. Other than that he was pretty impartial.
Sharrock Dermott was Nancy Good's campaign treasurer. Also a corporate attorney. He is a Huff yes man, through and through.
I truly believe that Dr. Archer is the one applicant who can help this board unite and start producing for the children of this city. BUT if not her, it HAS to be Mr. Kimbrough.

He was actually Melinda Campbell's campaign treasurer, but I agree with you. He's likely to be fitted for his puppet strings if he's the one who gets in.
Kimbrough! Kimbrough! Kimbrough!
@4:55 Thank you for clarifying that. I was half asleep and exhausted. I knew that, but I have no clue why I typed it. My apologies to Good, Campbell, Dermott and to Randy for this dopey mistake.
Since Banwart has so asserted that she is capable of bringing people together, perhaps she should join her president with his preference. She looks divisive, otherwise.
Archer would be great. I hope to see her again when the next election cycle rolls around. However, I don't think Archer can get four votes this time. It's great to think there are moral and intelligent people out there who are now ready to serve, though. Great improvement over the years when Board members had no challengers. And, I have to give Guilford a shout out for being such a considerate and classy man. He deserves our thanks for caring about students first and self second. Great man.
I agree, 11:43
