Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced an audit of the Carthage License Office in Jasper County.
Audit staff will evaluate internal controls and procedures within the license office including accounting and reporting of financial transactions, inventory of materials and segregation of duties within the office.
The Department of Revenue is responsible for selecting agents to operate contract license offices throughout the state. These offices process transactions related to driver licenses, vehicle titles and license plates.
This is the first audit for the Carthage License Office. In 2009, state law was amended to allow the Missouri State Auditor's Office to audit contract license offices.

State probably wants to figure why this office operates so much better than the Joplin office. Carthage is probably doing it too good and the state wants to punish..
This could get interesting? Most of us still wait just as long as the offices that are privately ran as we did before at the state ran offices. The difference now is political friends are profiting from the work.
Not sure how old you are, but this office being a political appointee is nothing new. It has been that way since I can remember in the 1970s. In the smaller cities, the license bureau changed hands when the governors office changed from Democrat to Republican or vice versa.
The offices aren't run by political appointees, they're all competitively bid. This office would be faster than Joplin, it's smaller. Most likely this is more a concern of driver's licenses with the large Hispanic population.
