Flash flood emergency warning issued in McDonald County

FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR MCDONALD COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  MCDONALD COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN MISSOURI...

* UNTIL 530 PM CST

* AT 1136 AM CST...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING
  HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. SIGNIFICANT TO HISTORICAL FLASH
  FLOODING IS ALREADY UNDERWAY.

  THIS IS A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR ALL OF MCDONALD COUNTY.

* CREEKS...STREAMS...AND LOW WATER CROSSINGS WILL BE ESPECIALLY
  SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE DANGERS OF FLASH FLOODING.
  LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE...
  BIG SUGAR CREEK STATE PARK... ANDERSON... NOEL...
  SOUTH WEST CITY...   PINEVILLE... LANAGAN...
  POWELL...


THIS WARNING INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING LOW WATER
CROSSINGS...
ROUTE DD AT THE ELK RIVER JUST NORTH OF NOEL...
HIGHWAY 76...3 MILES WEST OF ANDERSON...
AND HIGHWAY 90 AT LITTLE SUGAR CREEK NEAR JANE.

SEVERAL SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS HAVE ALREADY EXCEEDED HISTORICAL
LEVELS AND ARE EXPECTED TO RISE FURTHER THROUGH THE AFTERNOON HOURS.

SEVERAL HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN ANDERSON AND NOEL HAVE ALREADY
FLOODED WITH THE POTENTIAL OF MORE HOMES FLOODING ACROSS THE COUNTY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR OCCURRING.
RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE
PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS
SWIFTLY FLOWING WATERS OR WATERS OF UNKNOWN DEPTH BY FOOT OR BY
AUTOMOBILE.

TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD
DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES.

AREA STREAM GAGES INDICATE FLOOD WATERS HAVE RISEN RAPIDLY TO MAJOR
OR RECORD LEVELS.
