Auditor on CJ clerk's arrest: Those in public trust must be held accountable

(From State Auditor Nicole Galloway)

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway released the following statement today after law enforcement charged former Carl Junction municipal court clerk Cynthia Troutman with felony stealing on Tuesday. Galloway's audit of the municipal court, released in December, identified more than $65,000 in missing funds.

"Audits get results, and this is one more example of audit findings leading to real actions to protect taxpayers. When I issued the Carl Junction municipal court audit, I called on city and court officials to work with law enforcement authorities to bring justice and recover the missing funds identified by my team. The situation in Carl Junction confirms what my office advocates for every day: those in positions of public trust cannot be allowed to abuse their power. They must be held accountable."

Auditor Galloway's complete audit report can be found online here.
