MODOT issues travel advisory for Saturday, Sunday

(From MODOT)

MoDOT TRAVEL ADVISORY
For Saturday-Sunday, January 9-10

MoDOT snow plows and their operators are prepared and watching weather forecasts. Crews are ready to begin treating and plowing roads as necessary when the changeover from rain to snow begins sometime Saturday morning in Southwest Missouri.
Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will focus their efforts on clearing the major roads like I-44, I-49, Route 65, Route 60 and Route 13, etc. that carry the most traffic. As crews can, they will make at least one or two passes on lesser traveled roadways.  They will plow and treat major roads continually until those roads are in clear condition.  As they can, crews will treat hills, curves and intersections on less traveled roads and open the roads to at least two-way traffic.
Drivers are urged to give ALL plows ample room to work.  Please stay back at least 100 feet from the back of a plow.
Travel Conditions: Roadways may become icy and snowy as the rain changes over to snow.  Drivers are urged to slow down and allow plenty of following distance. Roads will not improve until the storm moves out of the area. MoDOT crews will stay on the roads as long as progress is made to clear the roads.  However, if temperatures drop into the teens or single digits overnight Saturday into Sunday, crews may curtail their efforts until sunrise on Sunday morning. Drivers are urged to use EXTREME CAUTION!
Road Condition Information: To find the most up-to-date road conditions in southwest Missouri and statewide, check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map.  MoDOT also has a freeTraveler Information mobile app for smartphones.
Winter Weather Driving Tips:
  • Buckle up
  • Slow down
  • Stay at least 100 feet behind a truck plowing/treating road
  • Do not pass snow plows
  • Be alert for changing road conditions
  • Allow for extra travel time
