DWI charge filed against Newton County prosecutor

Nearly three weeks after she was stopped by the Missouri Highway Patrol, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charges have been filed against Newton County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kathleen Miller.

Court records indicate the charges were filed Thursday.

The arraignment for Miller, 46, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, before Judge John Nicholas in Jasper County Circuit Court in Carthage.

The Highway Patrol arrested Miller on December 17.

Nothing to see here. The past president of the local junior college got nailed a few years back.

Didn't seem to impact his career.

9:18 AM: If she's convicted, and her superior doesn't can her, the voters of Newton County can remove her superior from office, right? College presidents don't have that sort of near direct political accountability.

I've only been a Newton County resident for a few years back in the mid-60s or so, before grade school, so I know very little about the county and its voters, but perhaps our host has a guess?

It appears that the only consequence Ms. Prosecutor received from her superior is a week of paid suspension (vacation). Doesn't this cast a cloud over her ability to handle DWI cases both past and future? Certainly a different situation than the aforementioned college president. Is the Newton County Prosecutor leaving the fox in charge of the henhouse?

Well it's easy to get a dwi if you can be given one if you BAC IS .03 that's one beer. It all depends on the officer that stops . I got charged for a dwi with a BAC of 0.06 in 2008

Pile on people. I bet each and every one of you has driven home after having a couple of drinks. It ain't like she robbed a seven-eleven.

I have never drove after drinking even just 1. I was recently hit head on by a drunk driver that flipped my truck with my husband and I in it! Thankfully we are alive and we're able to come home to our 4 and 5 yr old! I don't care if it's 1 drink or 10, your putting others in danger no matter how good of a driver you might think you are. Nothing is being done to the man that hit us other then a slap on the hand. This happened to me in newton county. The drunk that hit me had no insurance and now I have a completely totalled truck, 8 weeks of loss wages and 20k of Dr bills from my injuries. ......All that's to the one that made the ignorant choice to drive after drinking.

Even people who do not drink can cause horrific accidents 9:01. I an sorry for your losses, however, I do not think this lady was involved in an accident.

She's a hypocrite, I wonder how many people she's prosecuted for the same offense
