Former Sarcoxie teacher charged with sex with student waives arraignment, pleads not guilty

Former Sarcoxie High School English teacher Baylee Turner waived her preliminary hearing this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of sexual contact with a student.

Turner, 23, Carthage, who was in her third year with the R-2 School District, allegedly had sex with a student at her home sometime between January 14 and January 21, according to the probable cause statement.

Turner resigned February 12 and the R-2 Board of Education accepted her resignation the following day. District officials indicate they are working to have her teaching license revoked.

The next hearing for Turner, who is free after posting $1,000 bond, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 10 before Judge Joseph Hensley.
