Talboy withdraws bill targeting Tilley

The king of Missouri's House of Representatives (as far as accepting gifts from lobbyistss is concerned), Rep. Mike Talboy, D-Kansas City, has already prefiled, and then wisely withdrew a bill targeting a fellow legislator.

The bill list on the House of Representatives website shows HB 1312, submitted by Talboy was submitted and withdrawn today. The following description of the bill is still posted (though the bill's text is no longer there):

Prohibits members of the General Assembly from jointly owning property with any registered lobbyist unless the member is the lobbyist's spouse or family member or is dating the lobbyist.

Talboy's bill appears to be targeting Majority Leader Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, who co-owns a flight service with lobbyist Travis Brown.

The idea of Talboy, who has accepted more than $13,000 in lobbyists' gifts during the first 10 months of 2009, and almost $28,000 worth of gifts during the past three years, riding in on a white horse and taking up the cause of ethical reform is a bit hard to accept.

(Correction: In an earlier version of this post, I named Chris Liese as the lobbyist who owns a flight service with Rep. Tilley. I have corrected that to read Travis Brown. I regret the error.)
