After six weeks, Senate finishes quick work on waiver for days missed during ice storm

The Missouri Senate today passed HB 678, which would allow school districts to waive making up days lost due to the January ice storm.
The bill was handled with remarkable speed by the Senate, which passed it six weeks to the day after the measure, sponsored by Rep. B. J. Marsh, R-Springfield, was passed by the House.
The bill's co-sponsors included Joplin-area representatives Ed Emery, R-Lamar, Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, Ron Richard, R-Joplin, and Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City.

As a parent, I would not be in favor of my kids missing a week of education. Then again, I guess it doesn't really matter what I want to these guys...

I wonder how much money will be tied to this bill. Will the school loose out on funding for next year. If so, not many schools will take advantage of this waiver.

Will the schools waive the state funding for those days? Will the teachers waive their pay? I'm unclear as to why this bill that was so urgent that six weeks was too long to deliberate was even a good idea in the first place.

It was quick...but didn't Lamar already make up their five missed days?
