Everything Jasper County Sheriff Archie Dunn has touched, in his brief political career, has turned to gold, starting with his independent candidacy for sheriff, followed by his placement of Jon Bartosh as presiding commissioner.
Dunn and Bartosh threw their support behind Craig Putnam for Eastern District commissioner, which would have essentially put control of the county in the Dunn camp.
They didn't count on the popularity of incumbent Jim Honey. So far, Honey is soundly trouncing Putnam 2,542 to 600.
Even worse for the Dunn machine, Putnam is not even in second place. At the moment, that belongs to Blane Mitchell with 787 votes.

I think endorsements by Sheriffs and Preachers are the kiss of death in politics!
If Archie learned anything from this experience, and I am sure he did, it is to go ahead and back a candidate, but stay in the background while you are doing it.
