Springfield Mercy detains, threatens mother for taking picture of her own child
In this Facebook post from a Springfield mother, she is bullied by an audiologist and a security employee for taking a photo of her own child. She has taken them before during his visits and posted them because her son has severe hearing loss and she has to raise money for expensive hearing aids.
She is separated from her son, fired as a patient, not allowed to leave and every effort is made to make her give up her cell phone.

This is unbelievable! Tell me we are not losing our freedoms in this country. This could have been solved by the audiologist just explaining the policy to this mother, she sounded very reasonable in her recording.
OMG!! I can not believe they did this to her. I would contact an attorney ASAP. What is wrong with Mercy, they should ALL be fired.
Wow, Mercy may want to give these employees a refresher course on HIPAA. They might also want to discuss unlawful detention with them.
This is only the secret recording made by the woman after something had happened that warranted security officers being called. Was any attempt made to get Mercy's explanation? It seems like every experienced pediatric nurse has a plethora of stories about people falsely claimimg to be a child's legal parent. Maybe there is more to this, although the security officer does seem ham-handed at the least. More training on HIPAA is certainly needed
There was not doubt that this was the mother. No signs were posted. Parents take photos of their kids all the time when no other patients are involved. The medical staff even informed security that little boy was on Medicaid and the security guard with a supervisor present threatened to contact Medicaid as the guard tried to intimidate mom to turn over her cell phone...after SCOTUS had ruled search warrant needed if crime involved. Mercy's explanation to the Sgf News Leader: "we're reviewing our policies"
