C. J. Huff's Saskatchewan trip to take place during school week

Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff's trip to Saskatchewan to spread the word of the Joplin miracle will take place in the middle of a school week.
Huff will serve as the keynote speaker of the annual 2014 Joint Conference of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, the Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials, and the League of Educational Administrators, Directors, and Superintendents of Saskatchewan.

A schedule posted today shows that Huff will speak from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at the Saskatoon TCU Place.

Advertising for the event does not indicate whether Huff's trip and services are being funded as a speech arranged through the Washington Speakers Bureau, through a private source, or whether it is the latest of a series of thank-you speeches to those who helped the school district in the aftermath of the Joplin Tornado.

If he is getting paid by both the district and the conference, then he is making two paychecks for one day's work. Gosh, I wish I could get that privilege. Also, if he is not representing the district, and we all hope he isn't, is he taking a personal day? The rest of us would have to, and we'd have to apply for the day and justify the absence to Tina Smith.

It shouldn't be part of the thank-you tour, as it would be very embarrassing to find out we waited 3 1/2 years to say thank you to these people. That would be very rude and unprofessional. Surely they got a thank-you card sent by BF or JSAB like the other donors did. Why, by taking control of those donations and thank-yous, schools, teachers, and sponsors didn't even have to be bothered with knowing they got donations or how to spend them. Thanks, Bright Futures and JSAB, for removing that burden from our shoulders....
