Rock the Vote at JB's Piano Bar, 112 S. Main this week on Third Thursday (July 17th). The event will showcase local musicians Bailey Dennison and Josh Mullin, and is set to begin at 6pm.
Southwest Missouri Democrats and local Democratic Candidates will have voter registration cards available for voter registration or address updates.
Michael Jarrett (D) a Missouri House Representative Candidate for the 163rd district questions "when voter turnout in a non-Presidential election can be less than 10% of registered voters, and election fraud is so incredibly rare, why aren't we focusing our time, energy and resources on voter turnout and apathy? How do we get more people registered and involved?
Charles (Hugh) Shields (D) a Missouri House Candidate for the 161st district emphasizes, "to show up at the polls on voting day is important for lots of reasons.Being informed on the issues and candidates is a daunting task. I hear many people say, "Oh, I vote for the person I think will do the best job." That's fine, but I want to then follow up by asking the voter how does he/she come to that choice? I am usually left to guess how that choice is made. Hopefully that voter will be invited to share his/her questions/concerns again before election day".
Democratic Primary Candidate for the 7th Congressional district Genevieve Williams believes, "young people have got a right and a duty to participate in building the America of the future, after all we're the ones who will be living in it".
Democratic Primary Candidate for the 7th Congressional District Jim Evans agrees, "I believe that genuine self-governance in a democratic republic requires an actively engaged citizenry. It is our duty as heirs of the founding principles of America to, at minimum, register to vote and exercise our right to vote as a free people dedicated to those same principles. Vote as if your future depends on it-because it does".
