Cynthia Davis: We should be proud of the Duggars

(The latest newsletter from former Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-O'Fallon, now an internet radio talk show host)

If you were trying to destroy our Nation, you would have to destroy our Faith and our families. The attack on the Dugger family is designed around destroying both. Whether it's prompted by jealousy or hatred for intact families, there is little doubt that the "politics of personal destruction" is at the heart of this firestorm. The war against the Duggar family is being waged by those who reject families. Chicago Tribune article: Josh Duggar.

The Duggar Family is featured on a reality TV show call called, "19 And Counting". Josh Duggar, one of the Duggar kids, is now being persecuted by the media for something that happened over 12 years ago when he was 14 years old.

On the one hand we can say Americans tend to be guilty of the "Cult of Personality Worship". On the other hand, we still have much to learn by observing the success of those who have created a model of what "should be".

We should be proud of the Duggars for all of their contributions to our understanding of how a family can work. The Duggar family never advertised themselves as being perfect. There is no such thing. The point of any reality TV show is to demonstrate how they handle the surprises of everyday life.

This latest chapter is on how they handle problems with their children. This is a teachable moment. Their story is one of how we can survive our own failures, how to ask for forgiveness, how we can grow up and become mature adults who are capable of changing so that we are not held down by past failures. We all have our own stories, but here is the essence of the Duggar's story in their own words:

"That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before. Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles everyday. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us — even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey — the good times and the difficult times — cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything." Duggar Family website: Duggar News

True Hypocrisy: Planned Parenthood and many public school sex education classes are based on the presumption that kids want to do these acts. Even those who have never thought of deviant behaviors are taught and enticed by their classes to venture into areas that should meet with parental disapproval. They are teaching school children that abortion is good, marriage is irrelevant, abstinence is a joke, genders are meaningless and perverted acts are normal (Newsmax article: Sex Education Classes in California). Why is our government funding programs that will show kids how to engage in this kind of behavior? http://plannedparenthoodexposed.com/facts/

I remember talking with my Senator, trying to get his support for a bill I had that would remove a sex ed mandate from our requirements. He said, "You know, I think you're right. Before I took the class, I never thought about sex. After I took the class, that's all I could think about." In some states, the goal is to start sexualizing the children from Kindergarten.

The media lynch mob is using its best efforts to cause harm to as many people as possible, but we should not join them. Those who hate the Duggars want to send a message that even they don't believe. If you look at who's pummeling the Duggars, you will find most of them are the same ones promoting worse immoral scenarios

Moral outrage is healthy when it brings about more honorable behavior, but when it comes from those who are encouraging a new level of evil beyond most people's imaginations it is hardly honest. Do they really think people should be marked for life and permanently disabled if they step into the forbidden? They don't even practice this themselves.

Try to picture a family without problems and you'll realize that there is no such thing.

I was talking with a friend who said, "Is there any teen-aged boy who doesn't have something he's embarrassed about in his past?" If you want to help America, you want to support our Faith and our families.

Get off your freaking High Horse!!! The Duggars covered this up along with their church until the statute of limitations had expired.

If the same thing happened in the inner city, in Ferguson, or involving a minority, you would have ripped them a new one.

@7:58 No tolerance is great until it's your kid the system has no tolerance for. If it were your son, you'd feel differently.

@8:37
My belief system is that none of us are better than anyone else. You must prove yourself everyday.

And if you want to talk about tolerance, I believe the Duggar comments about transsexuals being child molesters sets the stage for being a hypocrite!

Total double standard. If Josh was not a GOP favorite in Arkansas, or a member of the Quiverfull cult, the same people defending him (Cruz, Huckabee, etc.) would be calling for his head! Imagine if he were a Scientologist, or an Atheist.

The Duggars are finished. And this couldn's have been a more opportune time for the Democrats. With the GOP contenders rushing to Duggar's defense, they've turned away many of the swing voters.

Just remember, if your "faith" teaches that is it the victim's fault when they are molested, then the moral problem is with the "faith", not the rest of society.

This cannot be an actual statement from this woman. Does she equate all teenage sexual abuse as something to be embarrassed about? Would she feel the same way if it was her own children?

A 15 year old repeatedly touching sleeping children is abuse, not an embarrassment. Getting caught touching yourself at 15, yes it's embarrassing. But getting caught touching a 5 year old, that's abuse. This lady is delusional.

Hypocrite.

2002. Josh Duggar has a problem and his parents know it.

2002 Jim Bob Duggar is running a primary campaign for the US Senate as a Republican.

2015. The internet is forever.

Duggar Dad's Political Platform: Incest Should Be Punishable by Death

Q. What is your abortion position, and specifically, where do you stand on rape, incest, and threat to the mother’s health?

A. If a woman is raped, the rapist should be executed instead of the innocent unborn baby. Adoption is an option. Many couples would love to adopt and are waiting for a baby. Abortion has been and always will be the destruction of an innocent child. Rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes. The developing infant committed no crime and should be allowed to live. In the unlikely event that the life of both mother and baby would both be lost (for example, a tubal pregnancy) all should be done to save the life of the mother.

Bonus.

Clip from the Duggar family show where Josh tells an incest joke involving his sisters.

Even though the boy was 14 years old at the time, he has been raised in such an isolated and strict environment that his actions were probably equivalent to "playing doctor" that parents might expect from much younger children who are curious about the opposite sex's parts. I haven't read about any allegations of rape (thank God!) not that only touching his sisters inappropriately isn't bad enough, but I'm not sure it rises to the level of sexual predator either.

At best the Duggar parents are hypocrites for portraying themselves as holier than thou on national television while knowing they had their dirty little secret hidden away in the closet.

Cynthia Davis is just another nut case who probably hasn't done any research on this subject prior to declaring that we should all be "proud of the Duggars."

Can you imagine if a Labor Union acted like this?
