Mrs. Halvorsen allegedly shot in her husband in the head, then called 911 and said her husband had shot himself. The case was investigated by the Newton County Sheriff's Department, which determined that Mrs. Halvorsen was not telling the truth.
Judge John LePage recused himself from the case, which was transferred to Newton County Circuit Court Judge Greg Stremel.
Mrs. Halvorsen is being held in the Newton County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
