Investigators: Deputy's wife shot her husband in the head

The wife of a McDonald County deputy has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree and armed criminal action after allegedly shooting her husband in the head.

Patricia Halvorson, 42, is being held in the Newton County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. She told investigators that her husband, McDonald County Deputy Sheriff  Al "Doc" Halvorsen, 69, had shot himself, but the evidence led investigators from the Newton County Sheriff's Department to arrest her instead.

Newton County officers investigated at the request of McDonald County since one of its officers was the victim.

The deputy is in stable condition at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
