Creve Coeur Democrat to pre-file seven bills to prevent gun violence

(From Sen. Jill Schlupp, D-Creve Coeur)

Sen. Jill Schupp, D-Creve Coeur, will pre-file seven bills to prevent gun violence. These bills reflect her commitment to public safety by preventing gun violence and implementing commonsense reforms to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who may pose a danger to themselves and others.

Earlier this week, a gunman murdered one woman and sexually assaulted another at a store on Manchester Road in Ballwin, MO. Local law enforcement released a description of the gunman, describing him as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, and around 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.

“Gun violence is killing innocent Missourians. Many of these senseless tragedies could have been prevented through commonsense reforms to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of dangerous people,” Sen. Schupp said. “Our thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need action. The legislation I will be carrying during the 2019 legislative session will help Missouri take a positive step forward to prevent gun violence and save lives.”

In Missouri, deaths from gun violence have surpassed the number of deaths in vehicle crashes each year.

The seven bill to be pre-filed would:

· Establish an “extreme risk order of protection” procedure through the courts to allow for removal of firearms from persons posing a “red flag” or significant risk of causing injury to themselves or others;

· Prevent loaded guns from getting in the hands of children in unsupervised situations by requiring safe storage;

· Create a 24 hour “cooling off period” before selling or transferring a firearm;

· Require background checks for all firearms transfers;

· Close the “boyfriend loophole” by prohibiting possession of firearms by anyone subject to an order of protection or those convicted of a domestic violence offense;

· Outlaw “bump stocks” or other devices intended to increase the rate of fire; and

· Establish a statewide task force to research and study gun violence as a community health and safety issue.

By pre-filing the bills, Sen. Schupp ensures that the proposed legislation will be introduced on Jan. 9, the first day of the Missouri General Assembly’s 2019 session. For more information on Sen. Schupp’s legislation, visit her official Missouri Senate website at www.senate.mo.gov/schupp.

I must have missed the part about her coming to take your gun?
I find it rather telling that rather than just calling her a jerk, you felt the need to add woman.

This knee jerk response of name calling and tired rhetoric phrases, FROM BOTH SIDES, is counterproductive to any solution. I don’t claim to have the answers but anyone can see what we’re doing isn’t working.

I have known Jill for over 20 years. all she is looking for is the protection of all the public. For Harvey to say what he says just shows us how, under the current president, name calling is ok because there are no longer any checks and balances.

Harvey, if you don't have anything nice and polite to say, keep your TRAP shut!!

Harvey, please tell me where this states anything about taking anyones guns. In fact, show me ANYWHERE, where someone credible ever proposed taking guns.

I won't be waiting for your response, because you can't provide any evidence, it's a scare tactic.

This is how it begins

Her picture doesn't look like a man; do you have information otherwise? I realize in these days strange things occur. Do maybe jerk by itself was sufficient. Name calling or not, she( he)’s not stepping on the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, and again;for all of you: come try, it'll have to be pryed from my cold, cold hands.

Anonymous 9;41 is correct. A first start to total gun control, The NAZI did it that way in Germany.
That's why we have to stand up to this invasion of the 2nd Amendment. She only gets mine by prying from my cold, cold habds

You’re probably right, Hitler did it just fine; and if more Democrats get elected, it’ll come to that.
I’ll sign my name for the Nauseating Liberal Democrats benefit.

I am not sure what you are babbling about 223. The Nazi party did in fact make it illegal for Jews to own guns, so yes the Nazis removed guns from people. There were other restrictions made besides being Jewish, too. If you a member of the Nazi party it was made easier for you to obtain a gun. Similar to how those on the left in power positions scream because a farmer has a gun but they are ok with their armed security detail.

Right on, 2:34

If she try’s to take mine, she might find it where the sun doesn’t shine

2:34. To say Hitler took the guns and look what happened is misleading. He was able to convince people Jews were the enemy. He was able to convince people he was the solution. The Jews could not have stood up against the powerful SS even if they had guns. People were willing to blindly follow him and look what happened.

That's an interesting place to keep your gun, Harvey, but isn't it painful when you're walking?

Ha... a comment on Harvey's backside. Day is complete.

9:04 I agree that restricting access to guns wasn't all there was to Hitler, but there is no denying that it was part of what the Nazi regime did. With the PC culture of today and the way the left attacks anyone who doesnt fall I to line with that culture, who is to say that there isn't a group out there that could be easily targeted to ostracize? Any restrictions of freedoms is a slippery slope even if you personally don't agree with that particular freedom.
